This is
an exciting circular route from Ulaanbaatar down to the Gobi Desert in Southern
Mongolia and back to the capital via Middle Gobi.
The
rough tracks pass through vast remote expanses of steppe and desert with some
fascinating gorges, mountain canyons and big sand dunes.
Outside
the city almost everyone lives the ancient nomadic lifestyle and we will be able
to see how the Mongolian people survive and can be self sufficient in this tough
environment, living in traditional gers (yurts) with their herds of camels, goats,
sheep, horses and cattle.
The
total riding distance is approximately 1300km, to be covered over a period of
7 days, over tracks which may be packed mud, loose gravel, dry sand, or rarely
black topped roads.
The
daily riding distance will vary according to the places we want to stop and see
and the good overnight camping places.
We will be accompanied
by support vehicles, a lead rider, mechanic, and cook.

This
is a Fly & Ride Adventure

Highlights
of the Tour:
Tsagaan suvraga
("White Stupa")
This is the name of a white and pink limestone rock
formation about 30 meters tall and shaped strangely as a result of wind and water
erosion. From far away it looks like the ruins of an old city.
Gurvansaikhan
National Park
The Gurvansaikhan "Three Beauties" are three rocky
mountains, the highest of which is 2815 meters above sea level. The protected
area includes the ice filled canyon of Yolyn Am "Vulchure's Mouth" and
there are wild ibex, argali sheep and huge birds of prey in the area.
Bayanzag
In
this vast desert zone of the south Gobi there are large areas covered with low
growing ancient saxaul "zag" trees. The area known as Bayanzag, "rich
in zag trees" is nearby the flaming cliffs.
Flaming
Cliffs
In the 1920s, American explorer Roy Chapman Andrews discovered many
dinosaur skeletonsand the first nest of dinosaur eggs at these beautiful red and
pink coloured limestone cliffs.
Moltsog
Els
Big golden sand dunes located in Bulgan district, are an excellent playground
for off-road bikes. Local nomadic people with their large herds of Bactrian camels
live in traditional gers amongst the dunes.
Ongii
Hid temple
There are many ruins of two separate monastic complexes on either
side of the Ongii river in Saikhan Ovoo district. A small number of Buddhist monks
have returned here and are renovating the temples.
